Tutorial access
To get started with the atmospheric flight tutorial, all you have to do is to find a VR tutorial station at any of the Markets or districts, on any of the planets / moons. Once there, interacting with the VR station or floor pad will provide the option to select all available tutorials including the Atmospheric Flight tutorial.
Flight preparation
- Get your items from the dispenser Activated by pressing [F] when facing the dispenser.
- Approach the plane Moving near to the highlighted cockpit will complete this task.
- Enter the plane Aiming at the cockpit, press and hold [F] until the action is completed.
Basic flight controls
- Retract the landing gears Pressing [G] (G for gears) will toggle the deployment of the landing gears.
- Accelerate to full thrust Mouse scroll up to increase the construct's thrust level, in increments of 10%.
- Pull up Pressing and holding [S] will pitch the nose of the construct upwards.
- Reach 800 meters altitude The altitude reading is always displayed next to the minimap and is highlighted at this step. Players should not direct their ship up very steeply, else they will stall. This is not explained!
- Nose down Pressing and holding [W] will pitch the nose of the construct downwards. Players should be attempting to level out, not point downwards, at this point! There is no gyroscope so this must be done by intuition and estimation.
- Use yaw to turn the plane Pressing and holding [A] and/or [S] will yaw turn the ship. Extensive turning will cause the ship to stall and drastically lose altitude!
- Roll with the plane Pressing and holding [Q] and/or [E] will cause the ship to roll, allowing for more major trajectory corrections. Roll turning too sharply can cause the ship to stall and drastically lose altitude!
Atmospheric navigation
- Reach the waypoint Using the movement techniques just learned, steady the plane and head to the destination. Altitude must be kept to between 800-900 in order to pass through the construct safely!
- Use trajectory computer Pressing [X] will toggle through 3 modes - Velocity, Velocity & Thrust and Long Range. Long Range showing the trajectory course prediction line.
- Switch to third Person Pressing [Insert] will toggle through Third Person Free Camera, Third Person Locked and back to First Person.
Landing procedure
- Reach the waypoint Align the ship west, maintaining altitude of between 800-900m.
- Approach the landing pad Maintain a straight course at 800-900m altitude, heading to the next destination marker.
- Reduce your altitude to 600 meters Gently pressing and holding [W] to pitch the nose of the construct down slightly, to lose some altitude.
- Go into first person view Using [insert] to toggle back into first person view, to see the control display, as they are not visible in third person when using a cockpit.
- Cut throttle to 50% Mouse-scroll down slightly, each increment is 10%.
- Follow the waypoint Maintain a straight course at 400-500m altitude, heading to the next destination marker.
- Reach 400 meters altitude Player is already instructed in the last step to maintain at least a 400 meter altitude reading and approach the next waypoint.
- Follow the waypoint Aphelia states to start heading down in Step 20, but the marker is set to a construct still at 400m altitude.
- Reduce your thrust Mouse-scroll down to further reduce the construct’s acceleration to 30%.
- Get above the pad Maintaining an altitude of 200m and switching to 3rd person free camera view with [Insert] in preparation for landing.
- Use the Airbrakes When the ship is directly over the landing pad area, using [Ctrl] will engage the brakes to bring the ship to a halt. Players are guided by the arrows to slowly pitch down further for landing, but not guided by any other way. Falling from 200m in a stand-still could cause the ship to take damage or even explode.
- Reach the parking Heading to the destination marker, players can engage their engines again at 10% thrust in order to maneuver the ship whilst hovering.
- Cut the throttle to zero Mouse-scroll down to ensure there is no ship acceleration. Scrolling down fast will result in the construct’s throttle setting to revert to zero.
- Extend the landing gear Players should use [Ctrl] to immobilise the construct from moving further and pressing [G] to lower the landing gears.
- Exit the plane Press and hold [F] until the action is completed.
- Exit by interacting with the teleporter Following the destination marker and looking at the pad on the floor, press [F] to activate the teleporter.
